Join the newly established Product Design team at Interac, responsible for designing and providing UX support for all digital products. We are a small, collaborative team where everyone is aware of each other’s projects. As a UX Design Intern, you will work closely with our design leads, Baqir and Naomi, to help develop and refine the next generation of Interac products.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Design Execution: Translate business and stakeholder needs into design executions using Figma. Contribute effectively to stakeholders, product owners, and key business needs.
- UX Design Thinking: Rapidly ideate and prototype solutions, communicate design rationale, and iterate based on feedback – you are expected to understand and empathize with user/stakeholder needs and create/maintain designs while staying consistent and coherent with Interac guidelines
- Communication: Report daily task completion and updates to design leads, collaborate effectively with design team members, confidently present design concepts and solutions.
- UI Design: Utilize high proficiency in Figma to create visually appealing, best-in-class, and engaging user interfaces and designs. Supporting in rapid ideation, iteration, creation of prototypes for presentation, testing, and all other applications – you’ll go through design process from end to end and iterate on existing solutions.
- Daily Contributions: Apply your design talents and creativity to products and services used by Canadians every day.
- Collaborative Design: Work with the design team to understand new products and capabilities, helping to create user experiences and interfaces. Help support UX Designers with various design tasks particularly squad work across eTransfer, KONEK, and Verified
- Design Reviews: Participate in peer reviews to evaluate design techniques and success in meeting compelling user experience objectives. You’ll speak to your designs and designs created by your UX Designers during backlog refinements, sprint planning, and daily scrums
- User-Centered Design: Engage in user-centered design methods including research, synthesis, exploration, storytelling, detailed design, journey mapping, and prototyping.
- Design Systems: Leverage and contribute to product design systems, ensuring interoperability, accessibility standards compliance, and brand harmony.
You bring:
- A strong portfolio, the confidence and familiarity to highlight it and demonstrate what you’ve directly contributed to (versus others) demonstrating wide-range of your talents and capabilities. We are interested in seeing from candidates:
- High proficiency with Figma as you will create visually appealing, best-in-class, and engaging user interfaces and designs on an ongoing basis
- Strong UI skills with the ability to create low to high fidelity to pixel-perfect designs based on best possible UX for various potential stakeholder
- A passion for both mobile and desktop experiences with responsive web design to mobile application and beyond
- Motion graphics and microanimations skills
- A strong understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices
- You have a passion for, and understand, current UX and UI design best practices – you have experience with UX Research, a basic understanding of UX Research best practices that can be applied to design solutions, and some experience with User Testing and A/B Testing
- Understanding and familiarity with tools like Figjam & Jira
- Comfortable with learning and working effectively either independently or with groups across different functions and levels – both technical and non-technical, internal or external developers, project managers and product owners
- Understanding that success is in the details – you tend to notice things that others don’t
- Proven time management and organization skills. You are able to prioritize and manage your time effectively to meet deadlines
- Confidence in your ability to communicate verbally and written in a detailed and impactful way – you have some experience presenting design concepts and solutions
